Lesson: How did Maya settlers survive and thrive in the rainforest?
This lesson explores how the rainforest environment impacted life for the Maya Civilization. Children will become familiar with the dangers and assets of a rainforest settlement. Pupils will evaluate how Maya rainforest settlers learned to thrive as farmers, builders and traders, and they will be encouraged to draw links to prior knowledge about settlers in prehistoric Britain. Pupils will be challenged to think analytically and rank by significance the factors that led to the Maya settlers thriving in the rainforest.
